Causes of Eyebags and How To Deal With Tired Eyes

Causes of Eyebags and How To Deal With Tired Eyes

For something so loathsomely common, it’s surprising how little we know about eyebags. Why do my eyebags get worse during certain periods of time? And most of all, the billion-dollar question: how do I get rid of my eyebags?

Simply speaking, the appearance of eyebags is most commonly owed to two things: fluid retention around your eyes and thin, weak skin. Technically, these physiological changes can be observed on any region of the face, but puffiness around the peepers tends to be more noticeable because the orbital area is where your skin is most delicate and sensitive. Needless to say, it’s also the first region to fall prey to signs of aging – it’s for this reason that eye care is so important.

That being said, eyebags hit at any age due to environmental stressors and lifestyle factors. Here, all you need to know about keeping your eyes bright and youthful as you age, and how our new Anti-Aging Eye Cream is a multi-problem solver.

Stay hydrated

It can’t be emphasised enough: hydration is absolutely essential. Dehydrated skin quickly changes texture, becoming rough, uneven and saggy. Keep up with your H2O intake in every possible way: drink tonnes of water, stay away from drying agents like alcohol and smoking, and by staying consistent with a moisturising skincare routine. To improve hydration across your visage, use products which contain moisture-retaining hyaluronic acid and other nourishing ingredients like plant butters and oils.

Always SPF

Exposure to free radicals in the environment causes an onslaught of skin maladies – including dark spots, uneven texture, wrinkles, and yes, eyebags. The free radicals present in UV-rays that we face on the daily cause oxidative damage to various components of the dermis, so it’s essential to block them out as much as possible. Sunscreen is a must at all times, whether you’re going to the beach or you’re in a house with glass windows.

Use Vitamin C

In that same vein, incorporate antioxidant ingredients into your routine to counteract free radicals and prevent them from causing oxidative stress to the skin. A crowd favourite and skincare staple, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that works wonders at brightening the skin – get in our new Anti-Aging Eye Cream, a buttery blend to use daily for visibly younger skin.

Be mindful of your allergies

If you’ve been plagued with allergies your whole life, it’s easy to overlook them as a cause for puffiness and swelling around the eyes. While the primary effect of common allergens such as dust, fur and pollen is a stuffy nose, an equally normal snag is swelling in your sinus tissue, which leads to the appearance of puffy eyes. Be mindful about staying away from these irritants and ensuring you keep your environment free from them. (Hint: vacuum that old mattress soon and swap that mucky duvet out from time to time.)

Incorporate amino acids to your routine

Amino acids, sometimes also known as peptides in skincare, are proteins which are essential building blocks of our body. Another key ingredient in the Anti-Aging Eye Cream, they’re vital particularly to the production of collagen production – adding this ingredient to your routine does wonders to smooth out wrinkles and plump sagging skin!

Get sufficient sleep

This goes without saying, but it’s worth mentioning that at least 7 hours of sleep daily is vital for your body (and skin) to function optimally. Sleep deprivation leads to dull skin and fluid retention below the eyes, which presents as those unsightly darkened eyebags.

Cut back on bad habits

While we all need to let loose once in a while, a lifestyle of only unhealthy habits (read: smoking, excessive alcohol and late nights) tends to spell trouble for our health – and when you’re not at your best, it shows on your face whether you like it or not. Avoid indulging in harmful substances and practices on a regular basis – the key is balance.

...Or just get a good eye cream

To make things simpler, get multiple of these benefits in a daily dose of a good eye cream. Our *new* Anti-Aging Eye Cream is formulated with an 8% complex of peptides and stable vitamin C to brighten and depuff, along with hyaluronic acid to smooth and hydrate. It's filled with all the skin nutrients your eyes need and more. This little gem has been clinically proven to reduce wrinkle visibility by 38% and brighten the skin tone by 4x in a month of daily use – giving you a more youthful gaze in weeks.

Apply a pea-sized amount (split between both eyes!) in a gentle dabbing motion around your eyes directly after cleansing. Use daily, both in the mornings and evenings, before applying your serum and moisturiser of choice. The eye cream's smooth, buttery texture also makes it the perfect base for eye make-up.
